Learn to read music
Music is a language, and like any language, it has its own alphabet and rules.
Let's learn the basics in just a few minutes!
Music is written on five lines called a staff.
Notes sit on the lines or in the spaces between them.
Each line and space represents a different note!
This symbol at the start is called the treble clef.
It tells us that we're reading notes in a higher pitch range.
Think of it as setting the โlanguageโ for reading notes.
A note has a head (oval) and a stem (line).
Where the head sits tells us which note to play.
Higher on the staff = higher sound!
The piano has white keys (natural notes) and black keys (sharps/flats).
Notes go up alphabetically: C โ D โ E โ F โ G โ A โ B then back to C.
Tap keys to hear them.
